Georgian Party Offers Burjanadze Talks on Planned Rallies
Civil Georgia, Tbilisi / 17 May.'11 / 23:53

The opposition Georgian Party has offered Nino Burjanadze to launch "consultations" on possible cooperation over street protest rallies, which the opposition movement People's Assembly, backed by Burjanadze, plans to launch from May 21.

Nino Burjanadze, ex-parliamentary speaker and leader of Democratic Movement-United Georgia party, however, responded that there was no time for "empty talk" now.

The both, Georgian Party and People's Assembly have declared about the intention to stage a peaceful revolution to force President Saakashvili to resign. But the these two groups have failed to cooperate because of personal rivalry and confrontation between Burjanadze and some of the leaders of the Georgian Party.

"Being aware of expectations of the society, we can state that the Georgian Party is ready to launch consultations with the People's Assembly and Nino Burjanadze in respect of the process, which they have announced for May 21," Erosi Kitsmarishvili, political secretary of the Georgian Party, told Tbilisi-based Maestro TV's talk show Arguments on May 16.

Nino Burjanadze responded on May 17, that "little time is left before May 21," when the People's Assembly plans to hold a protest rally on the Freedom Square in Tbilisi and a simultaneous rally in Batumi.

"There is no time for empty talk now," Burjanadze told journalists. She also added: "Any person, who has a genuine desire to save the country, can and should come [at the rally] on May 21 and stand beside the people."
