Marching Protesters Stop Outside Parliament
Civil Georgia, Tbilisi / 25 May.'11 / 15:34

Protesters marching towards the Freedom Square stopped outside the Parliament on the Rustaveli Avenue, blocking the capital’s main thoroughfare.

It is not yet clear whether the protesters would stay there or proceed further towards the Freedom Square as it was originally planned.

“We’ll see, we may stay here,” Nino Burjanadze, ex-parliamentary speaker and a key figure behind the protest, said.

Nino Burjanadze, who was leading the march of protesters, took a stage outside the Parliament, when the protesters approached the scene. The stage outside the Parliament was installed by the authorities as part of the preparation for the military parade to mark the Independence Day on May 26.

The current protest site outside the Parliament is about 300 meters away from the Freedom Square.
