A policeman died after he was crashed by a car, which left the protest venue on a high speed after the riot police started to disperse protesters outside the Parliament shortly after midnight, the Ministry of Internal Affairs (MIA) said.
“One part of the protest organizers, unfortunately, left the scene [with their cars] at a high speed, killing one policeman,” Shota Utiashvili, the interior ministry spokesman, said.
19 policemen, he said, were hospitalized.
There are wounded among protesters, however, no figures are yet available.
Dozens ambulance vehicles arrived at the scene shortly after the riot police broke up the rally outside the Parliament using teargas, rubber bullets and water cannons.
