Vashadze on Moscow’s ‘Disappointed’ Reaction on Break Up of Rally
Civil Georgia, Tbilisi / 27 May.'11 / 19:43

Moscow’s reaction on dispersal of protest rally in Tbilisi was “the only disappointed voice among those impartial assessments voiced from all other capitals,” Georgian Foreign Minister Grigol Vashadze said on May 27.

He said that the Russian Foreign Ministry’s reaction was an expression of a disappointment, because “the planned, financed and organized provocation” had not occurred in Georgia,” Vashadze told journalists.

Alexander Lukashevich, the Russian foreign ministry’s spokesman, said on May 26 that use of “brutal force” by the Georgian police to disperse protesters outside the Parliament “should be investigated very seriously on the international level” and it should be “objectively assessed in capitals of those countries, which support Saakashvili’s regime.”

“I want Mr. Lukashevich to calm down, as they will probably have to make similar statements for many more times, because those times, when coup d’états in Georgia were planned from Moscow, when security ministers, foreign ministers and interior ministers were appointed in Georgia from Moscow, have gone to history for once and forever,” Vashadze said.

He said that Georgian “law enforcement agencies were acting fully adequately” after “the unsanctioned rally overgrew into the violation of law and order.”
