If there is “the most pro-Polish people in Europe and in the world, the Georgian people have an ambition of having this title”, President Saakashvili told his Polish counterpart, Bronislaw Komorowski, after meeting in Batumi on July 26.

Komorowski is paying two-day official visit to Georgia as part of his six-day trip to three South Caucasus countries. An official ceremony of welcoming for the Polish President was held on July 26 in Georgia’s Black Sea resort town of Batumi, where he is meeting with the Georgian leadership. On July 27, the Polish President will meet with civil society representatives and visit EU Monitoring Mission (EUMM) headquarters in Tbilisi.

President Saakashvili said he was impressed with Poland’s foreign policy decisions, which, he said, led “to strengthening Poland’s positions in Europe”.

“Strong Poland, one of the key members of the European Union, is decisive for all those countries in the region, which have Euro-Atlantic aspirations,” Saakashvili said.

“And I think, now, as a result of very interesting actions taken by the President and present Polish government it became possible for Poland to become one of the major EU players,” he said.

Saakashvili said that Tbilisi was looking forward to Eastern Partnership summit, scheduled for late September in Warsaw. Eastern Partnership is EU’s cooperation platform for six post-Soviet states: Armenia, Azerbaijan, Belarus, Georgia, Moldova and Ukraine.

Saakashvili said that he hoped the summit in Warsaw would open new perspectives for further integration to Europe.
