Gov't Plans GEL 25m Electricity Bill Subsidy
Civil Georgia, Tbilisi / 20 Feb.'12 / 16:46

The government will start distributing one-time GEL 20 electricity vouchers to households this week, Prime Minister Nika Gilauri said at a press conference on February 20.

He said this time too about 1.2 million families will receive electricity vouchers. Total of GEL 25 million will be allocated for this purpose, he said.

Last week President Saakashvili said, that amid cold winter households increased electricity consumption leading to increased bills by 20-30% and he said it should be covered from the state budget.

A similar one-time GEL 20 electricity vouchers were distributed by the government last year too, also followed by GEL 30 “food vouchers”.
