Parliament Confirms New Ambassadors to Nine Countries

Georgian Parliament approved on June 29 new ambassadors to Argentina, Belarus, Bulgaria, Canada, Ethiopia, Indonesia, South Africa, Switzerland and Turkey.

Irakli Kurashvili, who until recently served in embassy in Spain, was approved as Georgia’s ambassador to Switzerland – the post, which became vacant after Zurab Tchiaberashvili became healthcare minister in March.

Zurab Pataradze, who was Georgia’s consul general in Istanbul, will become Georgia’s new ambassador to Turkey.

Davit Kotaria, who served in the Georgian embassy in Belarus, has been promoted as ambassador to Minsk.

Levan Metreveli, Georgia’s former ambassador to Canada and earlier to Romania, will be sent to Bulgaria.

In Canada Metreveli will be replaced by Alexander Latsabidze, former ambassador to Argentina.

Georgia’s new ambassador in Argentina will be Gela Sekhniashvili, who until recently was the deputy director of the department of America at the Georgian Foreign Ministry.

Parliament approved Vakhtang Jaoshvili as Georgia’s first-ever ambassador to Ethiopia.

Beka Dvali, who served in the Georgian embassy in London, was approved as ambassador to South African Republic.

Zurab Alexidze, director of the Foreign Ministry’s Department of Asia, Africa, Australia and Pacific Rim, became Georgian ambassador to Indonesia.

Also on June 29 Parliament confirmed Ekaterine Meiering-Mikadze as ambassador to Qatar. Previously, along with Qatar, she simultaneously also was ambassador to Kuwait, Saudi Arabia, Bahrain, Oman and United Arab Emirates.
