Foreign Diplomats, Ivanishvili, Civil Society Representatives Discuss Elections
Civil Georgia, Tbilisi / 13 Jul.'12 / 13:54

Swiss ambassador to Georgia, Guenther Baechler, invited to his residence on Thursday evening Bidzina Ivanishvili and other top leaders from the opposition Georgian Dream coalition with a group of Tbilisi-based foreign ambassadors and representatives of local civil society organizations “for an open exchange on the electoral process,” the Embassy of Switzerland said on July 13.

“All the sides agreed that the up-coming elections not only have to be democratic and fair but also peaceful, free of intimidation, and non-violent under any circumstances,” reads the embassy’s press release.

“Against growing concerns about polarization and potential escalations it is the role of the international community to impartially observe the elections, to mitigate tensions, and to contribute to a climate of political dialogue and fair competition. Further exchanges on electoral issues will follow,” it said.
