Civil Georgia, Tbilisi / 6 Aug.'12 / 21:59

Georgia has total of 3,621,256 voters, according to figures published on August 6 by the Central Election Commission (CEC).

This is the highest figure ever recorded in any of the seven parliamentary, five presidential and four local elections held in Georgia since October, 1990.

So far the largest number of voters was registered in May, 1991 presidential elections – 3,594,810; the second largest figure was reported in May, 2010 local elections – 3,544,770. In national elections held in mid and late 1990s number of voters, as reported by CEC, was ranging from 3.1 million to 3.14 million.

Figures released by CEC on August 6 also include number of voters in each of the 73 election districts; each of these districts also representing a single-mandate constituencies where majoritarian MP candidates will also be elected.

The largest constituency is Georgia’s second-largest city of Kutaisi with total of 163,654 voters, followed by Tbilisi’s one of the ten single-mandate constituencies Gldani with 155,822 voters and also Tbilisi’s Samgori district with 155,502 voters.

The smallest constituencies are Kazbegi, a mountainous district in Mtskheta-Mtianeti region with 5,779 voters and Lentekhi in mountainous Racha-Lechkhumi region with 5,955 voters.

The voters list also includes total of 188,995 “deregistered” voters. In initial data released on August 6 by CEC, this figure stood at 77,232, but was later revised upwards. These are those voters who previously were incorrectly registered to specific addresses and who were then deregistered from those addresses.

According to the election code further corrections can be made in the voters’ list and the final deadline for that is two weeks before the October 1 parliamentary elections.
