(Tbilisi, August 26 2002, Civil Georgia) On 26 of August Commander of Internal Troops Giorgi Shervashidze told reporters that after additional units entered the gorge, there is peaceful situation in Pankisi. "Local residents support endeavor of authority aiming at making order in the troubled region".
Shervashidze stated that Ministry of Internal Affairs plans to recruit local residents in Internal Troops, who will serve at the checkpoints throughout Pankisi Gorge, informs "Interfax".
Internal Troops of Ministry of Internal affairs entered the gorge on 25 of august. According to MIA press-office, 7 checkpoints have been built in the villages.
