Head of UNDP Visits Georgia

The United Nations Development Programme’s administrator, Helen Clark, arrived in Georgia on Sunday for a three-day visit.

During the visit on February 17-19, she will meet President Saakashvili; PM Ivanishvili; parliamentary speaker Davit Usupashvili; Justice Minister Tea Tsulukiani and Foreign Minister Maia Panjikidze, as well as representatives of civil society and key donor agencies “to discuss Georgia’s progress on the path of democratic transformation, and to pledge UNDP’s support to democratic reforms and economic development of the country,” UNDP said.

On Sunday Helen Clark was in Kachreti in eastern region of Kakheti where she visited a professional college and agriculture extension centre. Vocational education and re-training programmes are among those projects supported by UNDP in Georgia; other projects are ranging from promoting legislative, executive, judicial reforms and environmental issues to confidence building measures in communities divided by conflicts.
