Ivanishvili: 'We Take Cautious Approach to Abkhaz Railway'
Civil Georgia, Tbilisi / 14 Mar.'13 / 13:14

PM Bidzina Ivanishvili said on March 14 his government had “a political will” to reopen Georgia-Russia railway via breakaway Abkhazia, but was taking “a cautious approach” as this issue should be resolved in the context of boarder problems related to Russia and “occupied territories.”

“There is a political will on our part, but there are many questions,” he said during a press conference for media outlets from Georgia’s regions.

“You know that this is a very delicate issue. There are issues related to our relations with Russia and the issue of occupied territories and this issue of [railway] is considered in this context. Yes, there is a political will on our part, but it should be resolved in the context of these larger problems,” Ivanishvili said.

“We take a very cautious approach to this issue and I think that we will make progress slowly; hasty approach may harm us here,” he said, adding that this process “should develop in a way to make it beneficial for Georgia.”
