Ambassadorial Nominations to UN, NATO Made
Civil Georgia, Tbilisi / 5 Jun.'13 / 15:25

Candidates for ambassadorial posts to UN and NATO have been nominated to the Parliament for confirmation by President Saakashvili.

Kakha Imnadze, who served as a spokesperson for ex-President Eduard Shevardnadze, has been named as Georgia’s permanent representatives to the United Nations to replace Alexander Lomaia, who announced about quitting ambassadorial post to the UN after the October parliamentary elections.

Levan Dolidze, who has been serving as deputy defense minister since late October, has been named as Georgia’s ambassador to NATO.

Dolidze, 33, is brother of Victor Dolidze, a lawmaker from the Georgian Dream coalition, who chairs parliamentary committee for European integration.

Levan Dolidze served as executive director of the Levan Mikeladze Foundation before becoming the deputy defense minister; he was a consular at the Georgian embassy in Switzerland in 2006-2008; he served at the Georgian President’s administration in 2004-2006.

If confirmed by the Parliament, Levan Dolidze will replace Gega Mgaloblishvili as Georgia’s ambassador to NATO.

New ambassadorial nominations were formally made by President Saakashvili, as required by the law, but the candidates were actually selected by PM Ivanishvili’s government, which time after time complains that the President delays submitting of new ambassadorial candidates to the Parliament for confirmation.
