PACE Monitors Visit Georgia

Co-rapporteurs from Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe (PACE) on honouring Georgia’s obligations are paying a fact-finding visit to the country on January 13-15.

The two co-rapporteurs, Michael Aastrup Jensen of Denmark and Boriss Cilevičs of Latvia will meet President Giorgi Margvelashvili; PM Irakli Garibashvili; parliament speaker Davit Usupashvili, as well as foreign minister, interior minister, justice minister, prison system minister and state minister for reconciliation and civic equality. Meetings are also planned with representatives of the political factions in the parliament, judicial authorities, civil society and public defender.

Discussions will focus on political developments after the elections, constitutional reform, reform of the justice system, allegations of violations of property rights, pressure on local officials and opposition activists, prosecution of former government officials and minority issues, according to PACE press release.
