Defense Minister Visits Georgian Troops in Central African Republic
Civil Georgia, Tbilisi / 27 Aug.'14 / 15:46

Defense Minister Irakli Alasania visits Georgian troops in the Central African Republic where they serve as part of the EU military mission.

A company from the Batumi-based infantry battalion joined the EU military mission in the Central African Republic (EUFOR RCA) in June. About 140 Georgian soldiers are part of the mission, which is mandated to secure the capital city of Bangui and create the conditions for the delivery of humanitarian aid.

“We are very proud of your service here,” Alasania told the Georgian troops in Bangui. “Because of you, like NATO, now the EU too holds high opinion of our armed forces.”

Alasania also met Central African Republic Minister of Defence Brigadier General Thomas Theophie Tchimangua.

While in the Central African Republic, Alasania joined ALS ice bucket challenge, accepting the challenge from NATO Secretary General’s Special Representative for the Caucasus and Central Asia James Appathurai.
