Govt Sets Up Inter-Agency Council on Foreign Policy

Government announced on January 6 about setting up of Inter-Agency Council on Foreign Policy to “coordinate” implementation of Georgia’s foreign policy priorities.

“The council will elaborate recommendations for implementation of country’s foreign policy priorities and will provide coordination between all those entities, which are involved in carrying out country’s foreign policy. Functions of the council also include identifying those topics, which are important for country’s positioning on the international stage,” PM’s office said in a statement on January 6.

The council, which is chaired by PM Irakli Garibashvili, includes parliament speaker Davit Usupashvili; Foreign Minister Tamar Beruchashvili; Justice Minister Tea Tsulukiani; Defense Minister Mindia Janelidze; Economy Minister Giorgi Kvirikashvili; State Minister for European and Euro-Atlantic Integration Davit Bakradze; as well as secretary of the State Security and Crisis Management Council; secretary of government’s economic council; head of the government’s administration and her deputy, and several lawmakers.

MPs from Georgian Dream ruling coalition Tedo Japaridze, chairman of foreign affairs committee; Irakli Sesiashvili, chairman of defense and security committee, and Tina Khidasheli were also present at the first meeting of the inter-agency council on January 6.
