Shots Fired at UNM Office in Dedoplistskaro
Civil Georgia, Tbilisi / 10 Dec.'15 / 14:56

Gunshots were fired at a local office of opposition UNM party in the town of Dedoplistskaro in eastern region of Kakheti late last night.

No one was in the office at the time of attack. The building also houses office of UNM majoritarian MP Zaza Kedelashvili, who is elected in Dedoplistskaro single-mandate constituency.

TV footage showed office windows shattered by bullets. Reports say that over two dozen of bullets were fired at the office.

The Interior Ministry said without giving details that investigation was ongoing under the article of criminal code, which deals with cases of “damage of property.”

“Responsibility lies with the authorities; perpetrators should be immediately held accountable,” said UNM’s Zurab Tchiaberashvili, who visited Dedoplistkaro after the incident.

UNM lawmakers who raised the issue at a parliamentary session on Thursday were suggesting that the incident was stemming from GD ruling coalition’s “violent rhetoric.”

GD lawmakers condemned the incident. GD MP Nukri Kantaria said that firing shots at the UNM office in Dedoplistskaro was “alarming” and added that it was done by “enemies” of the GD coalition. A senior GD MP Gia Volski said: “Those shots were fired at us and against our interests.”

Parliament speaker, Davit Usupashvili, called on the law enforcement agencies to investigate the case immediately and said that “all the questions should be answered promptly.”
