Chirac, Saakashvili Discussed Georgia’s EU Perspectives

President Mikhail Saakashvili met with his French counterpart Jacques Chirac in Paris on March 9 to discuss bilateral ties and Georgia’s integration into the European Union.

After the talks Mikheil Saakashvili told reporters that Jacques Chirac expressed readiness to provide support for Georgia’s integration into Euro-Atlantic structures.

"I have his full support for the integration of Georgia and its rapprochement with the European Union," Saakashvili told reporters after an hour of talks with Chirac.

He also said that granting financial support to Georgia was also discussed during the meeting.

President Saakashvili who arrived in Paris on March 8 has already held talks with the Foreign Minister Dominique de Villepin, Interior Minister Nicolas Sarkozy and European Affairs Minister Noelle Lenoir.

Mikheil Saakashvili also met with the French business circles and representatives of the Georgian community in France.
