Georgian Economy Minister Irakli Rekhviashvili and visiting Russian Minister for Economic Development and Trade German Gref signed on May 28 an agreement, which gives Georgia’s go-ahead to Russia’s accession to the World Trade Organization (WTO).

In February, the Georgian Parliament suspended its resolution of December 5, 2002, which required the Georgian government to veto Russia’s WTO accession.

The 2002 resolution was passed by the Georgian Parliament against the background of extremely tensed relations between Tbilisi and Moscow.

However, Tbilisi’s stance softened as relations have warmed up between the two countries in recent months.
