Flood Hits Kakheti Region
Civil Georgia, Tbilisi / 4 May.'05 / 14:15

Several villages of the Lagodekhi district, in the eastern Georgian region of Kakheti, were flooded after the Kabali river burst its bank last night. No casualties were reported.

Floods and landslides in Georgia have already affected the Svaneti, Racha-Lechkhumi, the mountainous districts of the Adjara Autonomous Republic, several districts of Shida Karti, Kvemo Kartli and the Imereti regions.

At the government session on May 4 Prime Minister Zurab Nogaideli instructed local authorities to assess the damage caused by floods and landslides within two months.

Draft amendments to the 2005 budget, envisaging allocation of 20 million Lari for flood relief measures, were discussed at the government’s session. These amendments have already been submitted to the Parliament for consideration.
