In October, 2009 when Ecuadorian President Rafael Correa visited Moscow, he announced, that Ecuador would consider recognition of Georgia's two breakaway regions of Abkhazia and South Ossetia. But according to one confidential U.S. diplomatic cable released by WikiLeaks, possibility of Ecuador's recognition of South Ossetia and Abkhazia "was played up" in the press and President Correa made no such commitments to Russia. In April, 2010 Georgia sent its deputy foreign minister for talks in Ecuador and in May, 2010 President Saakashvili briefly met with his Ecuadorian counterpart on a sideline of inauguration ceremony of the President of Costa Rica. On May 27-29 Georgia hosted Culture Days of Ecuador in Tbilisi and Batumi, involving series of concerts, art exhibition and film screenings.
