Aslan Abashidze Wishes to Participate in the Consultations on Local Self-Governance

Meeting of the President Shevardnadze and the Opposition leaders on July 25th regarding the Local Self-Governance elections have been unsuccessful. The sides concluded that the subject is not duly prepared and agreed and therefore its discussion at the extraordinary session of the Parliament should be postponed.

Request of the Chairman of Adjarian Autonomous Republic, Aslan Abashidze to President Shevardnadze influenced on this decision as well. Presently, Abashidze is visiting People's Republic of China and will be returning to the country on August 1st. During his telephone conversation with President Shevardnadze, Abashidze asked to postpone the extraordinary session of the Parliament to enable him to participate in the consultations on Local Self-Governance as well.
