Radical opposition Labor Party leader Shalva Natelashvili called for the cancellation of October 5 local election results and criticized U.S. President Bush’s administration for supporting a “bloody dictator’s regime” in Georgia.
“The names of our supporters were erased from the voter lists, after the authorities learned that our party was slated for a victory. As a result 80% of voters boycotted elections and the polls have been thwarted,” Shalva Natelashvili said.
“Saakashvili has once again proved that he is a pathological bloody dictator, whose power is only based on [U.S.] President Bush’s total support. Georgia has actually turned into a colony of a foreign state… Our policy now will be to achieve the resignation of Saakashvili. We urge foreign leaders to suspend any diplomatic ties with the [Georgian] government and we call on democratic countries and international organizations to denounce these elections as illegitimate. We demand that the election results be cancelled. And finally, we hope that a change of Bush’s regime will set better prospects for the restoration of democracy in Georgia,” Natelashvili said.
