Heavy Fighting Resumed in S.Ossetia
Civil Georgia, Tbilisi / 7 Aug.'08 / 23:49

Heaving fighting is ongoing at all Georgian positions around the South Ossetian capital, Tskhinvali, the Georgian Interior Ministry said.

The Georgian village of Tamarasheni, north of Tskhinvali, is also being attacked by South Ossetian militias, Shota Utiashvili, an Interior Ministry spokesman, told Civil.Ge.

“After we announced we were unilaterally ceasing fire, there was a brief calm in the region, but then the village of Prisi was attacked [at about 10:15pm] and later Tamarasheni, too,” he said.

“Not only Tamarasheni but also all Georgian positions around Tskhinvali are currently under fire,” he added.

The situation north of Tskhinvali is still relatively calm. The area south-west of Tskhinvali, however, witnessed major clashes overnight on August 7 and during the entire day on August 7.
