Ten Georgian Servicemen Released
Civil Georgia, Tbilisi / 22 Aug.'08 / 00:08

Blindfold Georgian servicemen are seen on this screenshot from CNN on the Russian armored vehicle, August 19.

Ten Georgian servicemen, who were detained by the Russian forces in Poti few days ago were released on August 22, the Georgian media sources reported.

Twelve others, however, are still held by the Russian troops.

22 Georgian servicemen – who according to some reports are from the Georgian military police – were detained in the port town of Poti on August 19.

Alexandre Lomaia, the secretary of the Georgian National Security Council, said the way how the Georgian servicemen were arrested was “treacherous.”

“We were at first told by Russians that they were pulling back [from Poti] and assured us our servicemen could enter and guard the port,” Lomaia said. “But as soon as they entered, they were detained.”
