Saakashvili Says Ready to Testify Before War Commission
Civil Georgia, Tbilisi / 9 Nov.'08 / 14:18

President Saakashvili said on November 8 he was ready “to come and answer all the questions” asked by the parliamentary commission studying the August war with Russia.

He said at a meeting with the Anti-Crisis Council that “not a single official is immune” from being questioned at the commission.

MP Paata Davitaia, a chairman of the commission, told the President at the meeting that the commission was not authorized to summon the President and it was fully up to the President’s good will to testify. “It was very important Mr. President that you have shown this good will,” MP Davitaia said.

The commission, with an official name - Temporary Commission to Study Russia’s Military Aggression and Other Actions Undertaken with the Aim to Infringe Georgia’s Territorial Integrity – has already questioned number of senior officials last month and hearings are expected to be resumed this month.
