Tbilisi Plans Abkhaz, S.Ossetia Strategy Paper
Civil Georgia, Tbilisi / 13 Sep.'09 / 23:50

The Georgian government plans to develop its “strategy towards the occupied territories” of Abkhazia and South Ossetia, Temur Iakobashvili, the Georgian state minister for reintegration said on September 11.

He told the Tbilisi-based Kavkasia TV that it would be a comprehensive document outlining Tbilisi’s strategy and vision on broad range of issues related with the two breakaway regions. Apart of political and economic issues, he said, this comprehensive document should also address number of legal aspects like whether or not, for example, school graduation certificates issued in Gali district of Abkhazia to Georgian pupils should be applicable in rest of Georgia.

Iakobashvili said that he believed fostering people-to-people contacts should be an important part of this strategy and civil society organizations should be given a lead role in implementing this type of projects.
