Russian Delegation Retains Credentials in PACE
Civil Georgia, Tbilisi / 1 Oct.'09 / 14:35

As it was expected, the Parliamentary Assembly of Council of Europe (PACE) rejected a motion by 72 Assembly members to revoke credentials of the Russian delegation on the grounds that Moscow had failed to fulfill most of its obligations imposed on it by Moscow in connection with the consequences of the last year’s August war.

“Notwithstanding the lack of compliance by Russia with most of its demands, the Assembly decides to confirm the ratification of the credentials of the Russian delegation, on the understanding that this will enable the Russian authorities to engage in a meaningful and constructive dialogue with a view to addressing all the issues mentioned in the Assembly resolutions on the consequences of the war between Georgia and Russia,” the Assembly said in a resolution passed on October 1 with 88 votes to 35.

On September 29 the Assembly passed a separate resolution calling on Russia to fulfill its obligations before the end of this year.
