Gov’t Plans 'GEL 30 Food Coupons'
Civil Georgia, Tbilisi / 11 Feb.'11 / 18:56

After GEL 20 assistance for electricity bills, the government will also start issuing GEL 30 “to each family” to mitigating increasing prices on food, President Saakashvili said in his state of the nation address in the Parliament on February 11.

He said the government would start issuing “GEL 30 food coupons” from March.

Saakashvili said that because of high inflation many people were “desperate and hopelessness”.

“I will do my best to return hope for them,” he said and added that this “desperate mood” was not only in Georgia, because “rising prices embraced the entire world.”

“But I am not going to blame everything on global developments,” Saakashvili said.

“We are taking all the monetary and fiscal measures to protect the country from further inflation,” he said and added, that apart of monetary measures the government was also providing “small assistance” involving GEL 20 electricity coupons and planned GEL 30 food coupons.
