CDM Accepts Ruling Party's Electoral Proposals
Civil Georgia, Tbilisi / 27 Jun.'11 / 14:22

Similar to the New Rights opposition party, the Christian-Democratic Movement (CDM) also said on June 27, that it would accept the ruling party’s electoral system reform proposals.

MP Nika Laliashvili of CDM said that although the proposal was not fully in line with what the opposition was pushing for, it was better than the existing system.

He also said that CDM was not in favor of “all or nothing” approach, because such tactic had failed to bring any result at all in the past and would fail now too.

Like the New Rights Party, CDM too was part of the group of eight opposition parties, which had an agreement since October, 2010 to speak with one voice with the authorities on the electoral reform issues.

With these two parties accepting the ruling party’s proposal the group of eight has now been disbanded.

Other parties, which were part of the group, will announce their position on June 27.

Meanwhile, the ruling party said that signing of the agreement will be held on June 27 at 6pm local time and “the process will be over” with the signing of the document.
