Abkhaz leader Alexander Ankvab said that his assassination attempt on February 22 aimed at “destabilizing situation” in Abkhazia.
“All my thoughts are now with those guys [referring to his bodyguards] who have bravely fought with criminals. Unfortunately one of them died and another one is in critical condition,” Abkhaz news agency Apsnipress reported quoting Ankvab on February 22.
He was speaking at a meeting of the breakaway region’s national security council. Ankvab also briefed national security council members of his phone conversation with Russia’s President Dmitry Medvedev, who had offered Sokhumi assistance in investigating the attack on the Abkhaz leader. No other details were reported.
