Georgia, Azerbaijan Plan Joint Bid for European Football Championship
Civil Georgia, Tbilisi / 7 Mar.'12 / 12:52

Tbilisi and Baku have agreed to make a joint bid to host UEFA European Football Championship, said President Saakashvili while addressing the legislative body of Azerbaijan, Milli Majlis, on March 7.

Poland and Ukraine will host the European football championship this year and EURO 2016 will be hosted by France. The bidding process to host EURO 2020 will start this year and the host is expected to be announced in 2014.

President Saakashvili, who spoke of close ties between Georgia and Azerbaijan and the need to further “elevate” strategic partnership between the two countries to “even greater level”, brought Georgia-Azerbaijan’s planned joint bid for hosting the European football championship as one of the example of close cooperation between the countries.
