Govt: Flood Damage Cost At Least GEL 7-8 mln
Civil Georgia, Tbilisi / 14 May.'12 / 23:58

Flood recovery needs in Tbilisi are estimated in the range of about GEL 2-3 million (about USD 1.2-1.8 million), Gigi Ugulava, the capital city's mayor, said on May 14.

"Some funds will be allocated from the central [state] budget and we also have to request the [Tbilisi City Council] Sakrebulo to increase reserve fund. At least 2-3 million Lari will be required for the works that have to be done. We should spare no efforts in order to provide assistance to each an every person who needs help," Ugulava said.

Apart of Tbilisi, where muddy torrent killed five people, heavy rain also caused flooding in several regions in eastern Georgia, as well as in mountainous villages of Adjara in western Georgia.

Minister for Infrastructure and Regional Development Ramaz Nikolaishvili said on May 14, that flooding in the provinces had caused infrastructure damage worth of at least GEL 5 million.

"And that is only the damage inflicted to infrastructure - roads, bridges, water facilities," Nikolaishvili said.
