Three Georgian Dream Activists Arrested for 'Bribing Policeman'
Civil Georgia, Tbilisi / 24 Sep.'12 / 13:49

The Interior Ministry said on September 24, that it arrested three activists from the Georgian Dream for bribing and an attempted bribery of police officers.

It said that one police officer was also arrested in the same case.

According to the Interior Ministry a Georgian Dream’s MP candidate, Aleko Tabatadze, is also involved in this bribery case and for that reason his case was referred to the chief prosecutor’s office for further reaction. Tabatadze is number 177 in the Georgian Dream’s party list of MP candidates.

The Interior Ministry has also released, what appears to be covertly recorded video footage, consisting of three episodes.

One video shows a conversation between the two men in a room; one man, purportedly a Georgian Dream activist, gives his interlocutor, purportedly a police officer, who is now arrested, money and tells him that he would receive another GEL 7,500 immediately after his announcement at the Georgian Dream’s planned campaign rally in Tbilisi on September 29 that he was quitting the police because of receiving illegal orders to intimidate Georgian Dream activists.

Then a purported Georgian Dream activist tells his interlocutor that he would receive GEL 50,000 in exchange of a video recording showing a beating of a detainee in a police station. “If you can’t find any detainee for that [purpose], we will give you our guy, our activist from our youth wing, no problem, but don’t beat him to death… you know how to make it… Bring this footage to me and we’ll pay GEL 50,000,” the man says. The same man tells the interlocutor that the award of same amount was available in exchange of footage showing beating of newly recruits in the army, as well as for video recordings showing a judge saying that verdicts were made under the instructions from the prosecution.
