New Faction Formed in Parliament
Civil Georgia, Tbilisi / 6 Nov.'12 / 12:30

Six lawmakers, who entered the newly-elected Parliament as United National Movement (UNM) members but refused to be part of UNM’s parliamentary minority group, have established new faction.

The parliamentary bureau registered new parliamentary faction, named Non-Partisan, Independent Majoritarians, on November 5.

Gogi Liparteliani, a majoritarian MP from the Lentekhi single-mandate constituency, is a chairman of the new parliamentary faction.

Other members of the new faction are: Goderdzi Bukia, a majoritarian MP from Khobi; Kakha Okriashvili, a majoritarian MP from Dmanisi and a co-founder of Georgia’s one of the largest pharmaceutical chains PSP; Enzel Mkoian, a majoritarian MP from Ninotsminda; Sergo Khabuliani, a majoritarian MP from Tsageri and Giorgi Gozalishvili, a majoritarian MP from Lagodekhi.

UNM endorsed in the Parliament 65 of its members, but now it has 59 lawmakers.

Apart of this new faction, there are total of six factions in the Parliament – three of them are part of the Georgian Dream parliamentary majority group and three are united in the UNM’s parliamentary minority group.

Parliamentary faction is a group of at least six MPs, which gives certain privileges to its members, involving a seat and right to vote in the parliament’s bureau (the body which determines the parliamentary sessions’ agenda), guaranteed seats in committees, investigative and other ad hoc commissions and parliamentary delegations, as well as allocation of more time during the debates and discussions in the Parliament.
