GD Offers 'Inter-Faction Agreement' on Foreign Policy
Civil Georgia, Tbilisi / 30 Jan.'13 / 19:02

Georgian Dream has offered to parliamentary factions in the Parliament, including the UNM to jointly develop a document that will represent political forces’ joint vision on country’s foreign policy, Parliamentary Chairman Davit Usupashvili said on January 30.

He made the remarks when asked by journalists to comment on UNM’s proposal voiced on January 30 about making Georgia’s pro-Western foreign policy course legally binding by passing a bill on “irreversibility of foreign policy course” in the Parliament.

Usupashvili said that on January 18 chairman of parliamentary committee for foreign affairs, Georgian Dream MP Tedo Japaridze, offered to all the factions in the Parliament to launch a work on a joint “inter-faction agreement on foreign policy course”.

“So this process is already launched,” Usupashvili said. “There is already a draft document and if the UNM has a desire to get involved in the process we only welcome it. It is less important what kind of form it will have – whether it will be a law, resolution or an agreement. What matters most is that we should be able to elaborate a long-term strategy in respect of major issues; it is inadmissible to have dramatic changes, especially in the foreign policy, once in four years.”
