PM: Signing of Association Agreement with EU Targeted for Spring

PM Ivanishvili said after meeting with Estonian Foreign Minister Urmas Paet in Tallinn on September 8 that Georgia targets to sign the Association Agreement with the EU in the spring, 2014.

“We are in our friendly country, which is supporting Georgia for years already,” PM Ivanishvili told journalist after the meeting with the Estonian Foreign Minister. “Today we set a plan to sign the Association Agreement for the spring. We have chosen such a plan. I told you yesterday that such a possibility does exist.”

Before starting his two-day visit to Estonia on September 8, PM Ivanishvili was in Riga where, among others, he also met Polish Foreign Minister Radoslaw Sikorski on the sideline of the Riga Conference. Sikorski said after the meeting that the EU may sign Association Agreement with Georgia in 2014, provided Georgia meets all the criteria.

Georgia expects to initial – a step before the official signature, the Association Agreement at the EU Eastern Partnership summit in Vilnius in late November, 2013.

During his visit to Estonia, PM Ivanishvili will also meet President Toomas Hendrik Ilves, speaker of parliament Ene Ergma, PM Andrus Ansip, and Minister of Economic Affairs and Communications Juhan Parts. 

The PM is accompanied by Foreign Minister Maia Panjikidze, Economy Minister and Deputy PM Giorgi Kvirikashvili, State Minister for European and Euro-Atlantic Integration Alexi Petriashvili and head of the Georgian National Investment Agency Giorgi Pertaia.
