Georgian President, Ukrainian President-Elect Speak by Phone
Civil Georgia, Tbilisi / 27 May.'14 / 17:21

Georgian President Giorgi Margvelashvili held a phone conversation with Ukrainian President-elect Petro Poroshenko and congratulated him on the election victory.

According to the Georgian president’s office, the Ukrainian President-elect invited Margvelashvili to attend his inauguration, expected early next month.

It also said that President Margvelashvili told the Ukrainian President-elect that his victory in the May 25 election “should bring stability to Ukraine.”

Earlier on Tuesday the Georgian President and PM Irakli Garibashvili sent separate congratulation messages to Poroshenko, saying that the May 25 election demonstrated Ukraine’s firm will to continue European integration.

“Georgia attaches great importance to further deepening of cooperation with Ukraine with whom we have close people-to-people and traditionally friendly relations. Our common goal – the European choice, is especially noteworthy,” President Margvelashvili said in his congratulation message, adding that both Georgia and Ukraine are “firmly” on the European path.

“Georgia supports Ukraine’s sovereignty and territorial integrity within its internationally recognized borders. The presidential election has confirmed once again the Ukrainian people’s aspiration for country’s integrity and political consolidation; it has also clearly demonstrated an unwavering will of the Ukrainian citizens to continue European integration process and to take dignified place in greater European family.”

“I strongly believe that with the unified effort of the Ukrainian people, Ukraine will overcome all the difficulties it is facing,” Margvelashvili said.

In his congratulation message, PM Irakli Garibashvili said that Georgia “values highly traditionally friendly relations between the Georgian and Ukrainian people, which have turned into good neighborly and close partnership between the countries.”

“Our countries are united with shared aspirations - Georgia and Ukraine have a firm will to continue European integration process, which will bring welfare and stability to our countries,” the PM said.
