Civil Georgia, Tbilisi / 15 Jun.'14 / 09:08

Over 3,600 polling stations opened at 8am on June 15 across the country for the location elections.

Voting has been thwarted at one polling station in a village in western Georgia after ballot papers were hijacked from the precinct.

Central Election Commission spokesperson said that several “masked persons” hijacked ballot papers from the polling station No.16 in the village of Doshake of Martvili municipality in Samegrelo region at dawn on Sunday.

“Law enforcement officers are investigating the case,” CEC spokesperson said.

A local election official from Martvili told Georgian Public Broadcaster that ballot papers were snatched by several “armed men.”

380 voters are registered at the polling station No.16 in the village of Doshake.

CEC said that data about voter turnout for noon will be available by 12:30pm local time.
