Georgian Leaders Extend Condolences to Ukraine over Downed Plane

Georgian President, Prime Minister and Ministry of Foreign Affairs have expressed condolences over death of 49 Ukrainian servicemen, killed after pro-Russian separatists shot down an army transport plane near the government-controlled airport in Luhansk, east Ukraine.

The Georgian MFA said in a statement on June 15 that it “condemns any form of terrorism, extremism and separatism.”

Georgian President Giorgi Margvelashvili said in his statement: “We unequivocally condemn any manifestation of violence and extremism.”    

Georgian Prime Minister Irakli Garibashvili sent letters of condolences to Ukrainian President Petro Poroshenko and PM Arseniy Yatsenyuk.

In his statement PM Garibashvili reiterated “solidarity towards Ukrainian people” and wished “strength in this time of great sorrow”.
