CEC: Voter Turnout in Local Election Runoffs 36%

617,451 voters, accounting for 36% of total number of voters registered in those constituencies where second round of local elections were held on Saturday, turned out at polling stations, according to the Central Election Commission (CEC).

Voter turnout stood at 43.3% in the first round on June 15.

34.3% of voters turned out in Tbilisi in the second round of mayoral race, down from 37,3% in the first round on June 15.

Voter turnout in other constituencies, where runoffs were held, is as follows: Kvareli – 39,87%; Telavi –37,01%; Akhmeta – 48,45%; Tianeti -55,76%; Rustavi – 34,12%; Mtskheta – 47,41%; Gori – 39,56%; Terjola – 54,34%; Bagdati -44,72%; Khoni – 62,4%; Tkibuli – 41,82%; Ozurgeti – 50,88%; Lanchkhuti – 52,12%; Martvili – 37,08%; Poti – 31,37%; Batumi – 26,1%; Kobuleti -27.74% and Khulo – 44,57%.

The highest voter turnout was recorded in Khoni municipality (62,4%) in the Imereti region where GD and UNM candidates are contesting for gamgebeli post (head of municipality) in the July 12 runoff. UNM’s candidate, who is a former gamgebeli of this same municipality, is in a pre-trial detention since February.

The lowest voter turnout was in Black Sea resort and port town of Batumi (26,1%), where GD and UNM candidates are contesting for the mayoral office.
