Georgian MFA 'Concerned over Escalation' of Hostilities in Eastern Ukraine
Civil Georgia, Tbilisi / 22 Aug.'14 / 11:35

A shell explosion in Ukraine’s separatist-held city of Donetsk damaged building of the Georgian consulate, the Georgian Foreign Ministry said on August 21.

No one was injured, it said, as the consulate, located on Kotsiubynsky street, had been evacuated following the launch of hostilities.

In a statement on August 21, the Georgian Foreign Ministry expressed “concern over escalation of military hostilities in eastern Ukraine, which causes heavy loss of civilian lives.”

It said that any form of “terrorism, separatism and extremism on the territory of peaceful and democratic country should be assessed appropriately and strictly.”

“The Georgian Foreign Ministry reiterates its firm support to the Ukrainian government and people and expresses hope that with support of the international community the Ukrainian government will be able to restore sovereignty and territorial integrity in its internationally recognized borders and to secure peace and security for its citizens,” the Georgian MFA said.

It called on the Georgian citizens to refrain from traveling in those parts of Ukraine, “where anti-terrorist operation is underway.”
