Governor of Imereti Region Resigns
Civil Georgia, Tbilisi / 22 Feb.'15 / 16:14

Zaza Meparishvili, governor of Imereti, Georgia’s largest region by population in the western part of the country, announced about resignation on February 22.

Meparishvili, who did not specify reasons behind his decision, served as head of western Georgia’s regional security service at the Interior Ministry before becoming Imereti governor in December, 2013.

While announcing about the resignation, Meparishvili said that Imereti regional administration has been “one of the most successful” in 2014 in meeting its targets and “the best” one in terms of carrying out planned infrastructure projects.

“I hope this change [of regional governor] will bring new vision and successes, especially in attracting investments,” said Meparishvili, who also added that over the past six months he had told PM Irakli Garibashvili for number of times about his willingness to resign.
