New Head of Georgian Border Police Appointed

Dato Nikoleishvili has been appointed as new head of the Georgian Border Police, replacing Zurab Gamezardashvili, who resigned in November.

Prior to this new appointment Nikoleishvili was the head of the Interior Ministry’s Service Agency. Earlier till November 2015 he served at the Interior Ministry’s Counter Intelligence Department after holding various positions since 2000 at then Security Ministry.   

The head of the Georgian Border Police will no more serve as the deputy interior minister as a result of amendments made to the Ministry’s regulations in late November, according to which number of deputy ministers has been reduced from six to four.

The four deputy interior ministers are: Besik Amiranashvili, Shalva Khutsishvili, Merab Malania and Davit Vardiashvili.
