PM: Government Ready to Continue Dialogue on Constitutional Amendments
Civil Georgia, Tbilisi / 6 Jul.'17 / 16:37

Georgian Prime Minister Giorgi Kvirikashvili said at the government’s session on July 6 that the ruling party is ready to continue dialogue with opposition parties over the constitutional amendments.

“We are ready to continue dialogue in order to adopt a constitution, which expresses the will of the majority of this country,” PM Kvirikashvili said.

“We have already made very huge steps [for achieving such consensus] … and let me reiterate once again that we are ready to continue dialogue and to find solutions for reaching further consensus,” he added.

PM Kvirikashvili also noted that the issue was also discussed during his telephone conversation with the Venice Commission President Gianni Buquicchio on July 5.

“Mr. Gianni Buquicchio expressed his satisfaction over our readiness to continue the dialogue,” Kvirikashvili added.

On July 5, the coordinating council consisting of about 15 opposition parties called on the government to continue negotiations on the constitutional amendments.

Later on the same day, Parliamentary Chairman Irakli Kobakhidze confirmed the ruling party’s readiness for dialogue.
