Six Persons Sent to Pretrial Custody over Rustavi 2 TV Assault

The Tbilisi City Court has sent six persons involved in the March of the Georgians assault on Rustavi 2 TV journalists to pretrial custody.

The Tbilisi City court said all six detainees were charged with premeditated group hooliganism.

One of the detainees is also accused of property damage, while another is suspected of inflicting light bodily injury, according to the court.

Defense lawyers said they would challenge the ruling in the Court of Appeals.

The March 19 attack, which followed the controversial Christ-related remark of TV host Giorgi Gabunia a day earlier, ended with the detention of several protesters and brief hospitalization of journalist Davit Eradze.

Trial on the case merits was cheduled for May 8.
