Saakashvili Addressed Nation on New Year's Night
Civil Georgia, Tbilisi / 1 Jan.'04 / 17:47

Mikheil Saakashvili, a frontrunner presidential candidate made a televised address to the nation on December 31.

He once again urged the citizens for a high voter turnout on the January 4 presidential elections. He called the people “to be very active, like you where in November,” when the street protests forced Eduard Shevardnadze to resign.

Although six official candidates will stand in the January 4 poll, there is no doubt that Saakashvili will win the elections, however the election headquarters of Saakashvili fears of low voter turnout.

Saakashvili, as well as State Minister Zurab Zhvania, has urged the citizens for several times already for a high voter turnout. “Do not think that we have already won the elections. It is a mistake,” Saakashvili said.

More than 50% of voters should cast ballot to hold the presidential elections.
