Politicians, Journalist Threatened with Sex Tape Leak
Civil Georgia, Tbilisi / 14 Mar.'16 / 13:24

Several politicians, including from the government and one of the opposition parties, as well as one journalist have been threatened with releasing secretly recorded videos of their private lives.

The threat came in a form of a newly released sex tape of unidentified individuals, posted anonymously on YouTube with the text on the video threatening three politicians, one of them opposition figure, and a TV journalist to quit their professional activities before March 31.

The new video and the threat came few days after a separate sex tape, purportedly showing one of the opposition politicians, was anonymously posted on YouTube on March 11.

Access to YouTube was blocked for users of Georgia’s two major internet service providers – Silknet and Caucasus Online – on March 14, prompting speculation that it was done as a result of authorities’ intervention to limit access to the newly leaked sex tape. Silknet has cited unspecified “technical problem” and Caucasus Online representatives were not immediately available for comment.

YouTube became accessible again by about 1:20pm local time on Monday. By that time the newly leaked video was already removed from YouTube.
