The Chairman of the Central Election Commission Levan Tarkhnishvili visited the print shops in charge of printing the ballot papers for the upcoming Extraordinary Elections of the President of Georgia. Ballot papers are printed on a special paper in Georgian, Russian, Azeri, Armenian and Ossetian languages, as well as in Braille script for the visually impaired population.
Print shops have been secured and equipped with video cameras and the process is permanently observed by authorized representatives of the CEC as well as accredited observer organizations.
Ballot papers have been assigned a serial number and are bound together like a block note pad. Each block note pad is in turn numbered. The CEC will distribute ballot papers to District Election Commissions –DECs- no later than the 3rd of January. DECs will in turn distribute them to the Precinct Election Commissions –PECs- no later than 12 hours prior to elections. The delivery will be confirmed through a supply acceptance act.
The transfer and/or destruction of the ballot papers is considered a crime and is punishable by Georgian legislation.
