Civil Georgia, Tbilisi / 2 Mar.'09 / 18:45

Georgian Deputy Foreign Minister, Alexander Nalbandov and State Minister for Reintegration, Temur Iakobashvili, are paying visit to Iran.

On March 1 the Deputy Foreign Minister met with Iranian Foreign Minister, Manouchehr Mottaki, and discussed bilateral cooperation, according to the Georgian Foreign Ministry. It said that meeting was also held with chairman of the Iranian parliament’s national security and foreign policy commission, Alaeddin Boroujerdi.

“At the meetings the sides discussed the bilateral political-economic relations between Georgia and the Islamic Republic of Iran and future prospects for cooperation,” the Georgian Foreign Ministry said on March 2. “The sides underlined the importance of multilateral cooperation within the international organizations as well. Discussions in the frames of political consultations focused on the issues of consular cooperation. The sides also discussed the situation resulting from Russia’s aggression against Georgia and the occupation of Georgian territories. The sides agreed to continue meetings and bilateral consultations on a regular basis.”

The Iranian Foreign Minister told the Georgian delegation that maintaining stability and peace in the Caucasus region would help to expand cooperation between the countries in the region, the Iranian official news agency, IRNA, reported.
